Stitches Guide

Here I will post tutorials, tips, and tricks of the trade!  Happy crocheting!
*This page is under construction* :)

The Basics

Slip Knot (my version)

  1. Make a loop that looks fishy with the head pointing to the right on the table.  The "tail" opens to the left and includes the end and the working yarn.
  2. Go underneath the head from right to left and pinch the thread that is underneath the crossing point of the tail.
  3. Pull that thread to the right through the head loop, being careful not to pull the end all the way through.
  4. Tighten the knot.
  5. Place the loop on your hook.  Tug on the working yarn or end to tighten the loop.

Chain (ch)

  1. Yarn Over (YO)
  2. Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook.
  3. Repeat 1 and 2 until desired length.

Slip Stitch (slst)

  1. Insert hook into stitch.
  2. YO
  3. Pull the yarn through the loop on the hook.

Single Crochet (sc)

  1. Insert hook into stitch.
  2. YO and pull up a loop.
  3. YO and pull through both loops on the hook.

Half Double Crochet (hdc)

  1. YO, then insert hook into stitch.
  2. YO and pull up a loop.
  3. YO and pull through all three loops on the hook.

Double Crochet (dc)

  1. YO, then insert hook into stitch.
  2. YO and pull up a loop.
  3. YO and pull through all two loops on the hook.
  4. YO and pull through remaining loops on the hook.

Here's  a left-handed video tutorial on how to make a granny square.  Granny squares are a classic crochet pattern and SO versatile - purses, blankets, tops, and pillows are just some examples!
